An introduction to our teams in 2010 and 2011
In 2010, we will partner with Tearfund’s Transform program for an October team, and Mission Direct for several shorter Summer teams. Both have a slightly different application process. See below for more information on each programme respectively.
Important Dates for the 2010-11 Transform Programme
The main aspect of the programme is the three or so months spent overseas working in Tanzania. There is however a great deal more to this whole experience both before and after the trip, which Go MAD In Tanzania views as being vitally important.
Our partner Tearfund Transform will manage the registration, administration and training for the programme. There are a number of important dates and events that you need to be aware of, so please review the timeline below. Also note that several of the events are combined with teams from other organisations that have partnered with Tearfund for 2011.
Application Deadline
For Jan and April 2011 (3 month) Tranform Team - 30th September 2010
For Sep 2010 (2 month) Transform Team – 31st August 2010
Interview and Selection
23rd October 2010 at Teddington Baptist Church
The main purpose of this event is for Transform staff to conduct a 30 minute one-to-one interview with applicants to assess their suitability for the programme and for applicants to expand on the information given in their application form. The day will also include a presentation on Tearfund, Transform and the ethos of the Four-month programme. There will also be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and to meet and chat with fellow applicants and representatives of Go MAD. More detailed information about the projects will also be made available.
Applicants will be informed about options for day and time slot for their interview by email soon after they have applied. You would only be required to attend one of the two dates and for about 3-4 hours in total (basically for either a morning or afternoon session).
Letter Confirming Outcome of the Interview
Week beginning Tuesday 26th October 2010
Tearfund will write to you, on our behalf, to confirm decisions made following the interview and briefing day. If you are offered a place on the programme it will be a provisional place and will include the name of the team and which orientation you will be required to attend.
You may not be offered a place on a Go MAD team to Tanzania – they may feel you are more suited to another country team. You will have a chance to discuss this with them at the interview day.
Orientation and Training Days
22nd-25th November 2010 at the Oakwood Youth Challenge Centre, near Bracknell
More specific details about timings, content and purpose of the orientation will be available at the interview and briefing days in October.
This training event will be the first opportunity participants have to meet with their finalised team and to begin the process of team building and gearing up for the trip together. Team building is one of many important aspects to this training week. As well as several sessions dedicated to this, the orientation will also cover numerous other subjects including ‘What is poverty?’ ‘Cultural Awareness’ ‘Health and Safety’ and an initial session on your country and project. There will also be the opportunity for participants to take part in some ‘outdoor pursuits’ during the week.
Trip Dates for Transform 2011
October Team
There will be an 8 week team this year (rather than a longer 12 week team), but doing most of the things a 12 week team would normally do. The cost is £1,700 + cost of flights and visa. In addition, team members are expected to raise £300 towards their team building fund before they can leave.
