Image - Building Projects

The building projects in the villages focus on three basic needs...

Shelter

Providing safe housing that reduces snake bite, and insect-born disease hazards. We have been working with the Diocese of Mara to provide housing made from burnt brick. These houses are designed to keep snakes and mosquitos at bay, and to provide good shelter.

Clean Drinking Water

Normally water is obtained from either ground water pools or from trips to Lake Victoria (2 hour round trip). The quality of the ground water and lake water is poor, and usually high in water-born parasites. We have been working with the Diocese of Mara to provide rain water tanks to the villages, to help reduce the spread of disease and water-born parasites.

Good Sanitation

There is no infrastructure for sanitation. And taking a toilet stop in the grass (the common method), can result in a hookworm parasite infection. This method of sanitation also results in the spread of diseases through airborne insects, and through ground water. We have been working with the Diocese of Mara to build VIP (Ventilated Improved Privy) Toilets. These toilets help to reduce hookworm parasite, and insect-born disease hazards.
