Annie Venn is 19 and is studying Theology at Trinity College, Bristol. She always wanted to go to Africa from when she was little, so it was a dream come true to go to Tanzania in her gap year on the October 2010 Go MAD team. Annie then returned to help orientate the April 2011 team, and she is more than excited to go back next summer!
In October 2010, Annie’s team repaired a family’s water tank; the mother of this family was called Maria. They discovered that Maria’s mud-house is likely to fall down in the next 2 years as there is a large crack running down the side of the small building, leaving Maria and her family homeless and without a roof to collect clean water.
Annie has been inspired to do something about this and build Maria a new, brick house for this hard-working family next summer. This will provide them with shelter and security as well as clean water. It will be life-changing for Maria, her husband and her three children, but also for the five other members of her extended family who live there too.
The trip will run for 4 weeks and accommodation will be in the Go MAD volunteers house, Eagle Lodge Musoma:
22nd June-21st July 2012
Cost: £930*
To apply for the trip please fill out an application by clicking here
Other Activities: The trip will not just consist of building the house but other activities will be available to volunteer, such as helping out in the local children’s home and primary school.
There will also be an opportunity to visit the Serengeti, hike around Lake Victoria and relax on the beaches of the Lake.
Some donations have already been generously made, but the more money we raise, the more we can do for Maria…it would be great to be able to build them a toilet as well!
